Welcome

Welcome to the first edition of what I hope to be a regular blog about the great works that members of Y's Men's Clubs and Y's Service Clubs are doing in the Maritimes, and around the world. I will frequently just refer to y's Men's Clubs, even though I know that many clubs, and increasing numbers of clubs are co-ed and have changed their names to Y's Service Clubs in recognition of this development.  It is the natural progression of our movement to move away from a "men's" club, but it is simply easier to refer to Y's Men.

Founded in Toledo, Ohio, USA in 1922 to support a local YMCA, Y's Men International is now oriented to serving the worldwide YMCA, the largest non-governmental youth organisation, and through it the communities in which it is present throughout the world. Since the YMCA is usually known as "the Y" in the USA, and as the Y's Men movement started there as a club of "men of and for the Y", it was named the "Y's Men's Club".

Not every Y's Men's Club is actually  in a community with a Y, and so many other community organizations benefit form the work of the Y's Men.  Over the coming months I intend to share with everyone in the blogosphere some of these great works in hopes of getting some recognition for the effort put in by members of our movement, and hopefully, to get some people interested in joining us.

Stay tuned.
